I have a 54” Samsung tv, maybe 12 yr old, not really sure. It’s a Smart TV.
Works great when it works! Usually will not power up with remove, but if I unplug it and plug it back in it will power up and work fine. Then it will shut down for just a few seconds then power up on its own and go right back to the program I’m watching. Really shuts down only a few seconds then back up to normal. It will do the shut off/back on maybe 5/6 times during 4-5 hours of watching in the evening. May be something simple, I just hate to throw it away cause it works so well, until it doesn’t. Any suggestions as to what this could be. Don’t know where I could even take it for a fix as most electronics are considered throw away now.. Thanks in advance for any ideas. |

Is it overheating or near a heat source?

Hi, Kingbuzzo……..
Yes it is next to a heat/AC register but has been in the same location for as long as we’ve had it. Its age is against it, I know. Maybe some component in it is getting weak. Been a good one tho. Thks |

Maybe take it outside and blow the back of it out with air or even try vacuuming it. Maybe dust has collected in it over the years being next to the vent. That could cause an over heat condition.

Failing the blow 12 years is a good run...they don't make 'em like they used too
You will be amazed at the new OLED 8k picture quality you can get at a fraction of what you paid for that one... |

Thanks, guys………….makes a lot of sense.
I see a series of screws around the back. Is removal as simple as removing the screws and cable connections? Have a large compressor so that’s no problem…No doubt it’s dirty inside’s Soon as it warms up some I’ll carry it out to the garage and work out on this thing. Thanks for your input |

If you got 12 years I would think that was a good run. We bought a couple of tv's from the mart at Christmas, one was a 50"something the other was a 64" I think. Together they were less than $800. I hate to be a throw away society but that is the way of consumer products now. My first 'big screen' a 48" cabinet that was bigger than a refrigerator cost almost $3000. I really hated when that one went kaput.

I may be nostalgic to a fault (hey, at least I admit it!);
But quality in electronics really isn’t what it used to be. CRT’s were nothing fancy, but they could always be fixed; this new stuff is built so that after time the boards fry from heat ect, and they are just not fixable - at least not for less than the cost of a new tv!? I was the last person in my family to have a CRT tv (I still have it ![]() But years ago we used airmiles (a Canadian thing) and got a smart tv; That one crapped out in a shockingly quick time, so I got a replacement, and set the “old” one back in the replacement’s box; That tv (knocks on wood) is still chugging along after almost ten years now… When it does conk out, I’ll plug in the CRT so my kids can play Duck Hunt ![]()
