stalling Ford Ranger
2007 Ranger V6. I know next to nothing about newer vehicles. About a week ago the 'Check Engine' light came on but it still ran ok. About 2 days ago it started acting up. It wont idle. It will idle maybe a minute then start rocking and stall. It will start right back up and it still drives ok....for now. I can keep it running with a foot on the brake and one on the gas. Any ideas? It has 87,000 miles and i'm hoping it will last until fall then i'll trade it in.

A lot of times, a vacuum leak will turn on the Check Engine light.

Get a cheap bluetooth code scanner.
I agree on the above, but with a scanner you can also make sure the throttle position sensor is OK.

Go by almost any parts store and they will run a check on it and tell you what the problem is. I also agree with the Idle air control valve being the culprit. IIRC it is on the left front of the motor on the intake. Two bolts hold it on. You can take it off and use some Seafoam Deep Creep to clean it and it may last until you trade it in. Be careful not to tear the gasket when you remove it.

a bad air control valve usually makes the truck idle high on start up.

My 03 4.0...had a similar scenario.......bad vaccum hose (90 degree) underneath upper rad hose....
I had it scanned and the results were not even CLOSE to what the problem was....
