Default Hit and miss marine engine

I have a hit and miss marine engine. It's in pieces and needs a new piston and the cylinder is cracked. I was thinking of making it work or is it not worth the time?

There are forums for those engines, may get a better opinion there. They are the reason I still go to fairs though!

They are neat to watch. They have a gathering every year close to my house for the hit and miss and anything steam. Pretty small crowd of older people.

Best use I have see for one was an ice cream maker.

They have one in Carlisle at some events powering an ice cream maker. I just traded some parts I was'nt going to use for a restored Maytag engine. I remember my uncle had one when I was a kid. It powered a drag saw.

In my shop I have on loan from a collector a single cylinder 1920's era marine engine. It's on a wooden cart near the entry door and gets occasional attention. Most think it's a hit-n-miss, but it's not. In the past couple of years I think 3 people have correctly identified it as being a marine engine.

I wondered about whether a hit and miss would be good as a marine engine. That prop gives a lot of drag and would keep the engine firing pretty regularly and require a very large flywheel, wouldn't it?

The engine I have has what I consider a heavy flywheel. It also has (I've been told) a Model T coil. I'll try and post pictures this weekend.
