I strolled through the Pull A Part again this morning. I found a set of Blazer parking brake cables. $16.68. Other than buying some fluid and altering the cables to fit, I should be done with the checkbook.
Just need to do it......

I started on mine on May 31st. So far I have removed the axle assembly, power washed it, had the tubes welded and had it blasted. A local driveline company gave me a cheap quote on the pinion seal install, so I had them do it. It should be done today. I have all the parts, but I doubt I can get this all done by the time we leave for our trip out west (Sunday). This job has not been hard; but there are a lot of pieces to it so it has been time consuming.
I loaded the pads into the calipers the other day. This system is light years ahead of what I took out of there. A modern floating pad setup with aluminum calipers. Here are a couple of technical notes for those who may do this conversion. The banjo bolts are M10 x 1.0 pitch. The bolts I purchased to hold the caliper brackets to the E-brake assemblies are M10 x 1.5 x 30mm washer heads, grade 10.9.

I've been looking at ways to "swage" ends on the parking brake cables.
Anybody ever done that at home?

I was thinking I could braze them on.

Hey David, had a chance to mock up the rear axle spacers yet?

Not yet Howard. I did back the car in Friday with the idea I'd drop the rear end out but a bass fishing trip and Fathers Day have kept me out from under it. I should start one evening next week. I'll start a new thread about the process when I do.

I couldn't complete the job though as my right backing plate was a 4WD and it should have been a 2WD (caliper mounts behind axle). Here is a pic: The left side is looking pretty good though:

OK, I may beat you to it, but since you're starting a new thread I'll just wait for you. FYI, I've got another project; '77 Jag 4-piston calipers that I'm attempting to make fit on my Goat....heaven help us.

Howard, I would if I could, but unfortunately I am traveling to LA. Are you asking about the width of the axel tube flanges? Or caliper brackets? I will be happy to measure them when I get back in 2 weeks.
Good luck with your front project. Let us know how it goes because I may do something similar.

My calipers say 3/10 inch at the bolt hole.

Thanks David. I just want to make sure we're working with the same bits. I'll check mine this week.
