Guys, never communicate in ad threads.

PM the seller, that way nobody but you and the seller knows that you’re a buyer.

Protect yourself, always send any kind of communication when you’re here on the forums in a private message.

If you do let potential scammers see you communicating here on the open forums then you’re making yourself a target unfortunately. Learn to recognize broken English, that PM message is so suspect it’s not even funny.

Finally DO NOT display your email, just because the forums gives you that option doesn’t make it safe. Scammers will use it to try to fool you. Share your email with potential buyers or sellers by PM only.

it's disturbing to read this..

I never imagined a criminal would be so low as to use a PY member name to scam someone.

I so wish law enforcement had the bandwidth to chase these scumbags.

What a crappy "new" lesson for me to learn.

Just today, my wife had someone send her a fraudulent invoice through a big-name popular payment service. It appears the scammer had a legitimate account and was allowed to send fake invoices to an email "list" of other account holders.

If I may add, remember you can always reimburse the seller the fees and pay through PayPal and be protected. It's 3% but if your not sure whom you are dealing with its cheap protection.

Agree.... Sadly the powers that be have set up a system so the folks in power can't do much about this if they did care. I figured this out when a guy cleaned out our bank account. Ran the wife and I through the ringer to get our money back. Once we were cleared they couldn't have cared less as to who the thief was. In fact they protected them by telling me I'd need a court order to see the picture of the fellow who stole our money.... They protected the guy that stole my identity!

This topic would be a different thread but I get it and have had similar experiences. I'm sorry this happened to you too.

In the end, electronic communication and commerce is a minefield and I like trusting people better than questioning their motives.

Thanks to b-man and others for reminding us all about the risks here on PY and doing what they can to protect us.

B-man for sure can kick some azz when it comes to these scammers.... Just have to give him or Stuart a heads up.

As you said maybe in a different thread but I'm curious as to why the sudden increase in scammers on this site.

I had a large cash withdrawal taken from my Visa card. When I told them it wasn’t me I was told I would have to be willing to prosecute who ever did it. I told them no problem go get ‘‘em the money was was taken off my visa and I never heard another word from them.

Unfortunately, it's the world in which we live, some scumbag living in his mom's basement ripping us off for pizza money. If you use PayPal, don't use 'friends and family' to save the seller a few bucks. Pay the extra 3% to protect yourself.

I will ck after I post this, but is there a sticky on protecting ourselves from fraud?
