Default interchange among manual transmission consoles

I have been pipe-dreaming of a big car with a 4 speed. May never happen, however, I was wondering if manual consoles interchange between years. I am guessing that 65 - 70 have a very similar chassis and floor and so perhaps those would all physically fit? Is it fair to say earlier consoles would not fit 65 and up?

How about between 4 spd vs. 3 spd? Any real difference? I realize the shift pattern is different. Do the two shifters come up in the same place relative to each other front to back and side to side?

You are correct, 62-64 consoles will not fit 65 and up.

65-66 stick console is slightly different than a 67-68 stick console but they all work. There were no floor shift manual American Pontiacs in 69-70.
65-68 3 or 4 speed used the same console.
