1977. Here is my forth, still owned the first 3, GTO at age 17 and my first nice one. A 5 year old, one owner Cardinal Red 455HO, M22, 12 bolt Posi WW5. This was my main transportation senior year. Had a/c too.

Found this pic from the day and HAD to save it since there is the back end of a white '61 Catalina 6 passenger Safari right in the middle! How cool is that? I am rebuilding an identical car at this time.

I really like this thread Steve, I hope there is some room for some old truck shots too.

Here is a shot I found on the net. The really cool thing is that it's a shot of my Dad driving his '63 Kenworth between Sydney and Melbourne circa 64/65!!!
Absolutely amazing that an "on the move" pic turned up...I'm pretty stoked to have found this shot.

Check out the "Stop" and "Turn" arm on the drivers door...What a classic..very outdated on the KW.

I showed him this pic and he laughed...he remembered coming around a corner and seeing a bloke standing in the middle of the road holding a camera!! These S models were the first Kenworths imported into Australia.

Default My first car

Here's how it all started for me, a '66 Tempest convertible I bought in Aug. 1970, just before I started my senior year in high school. It was red with a red interior and white top and a 326 with a column shift 2speed auto. With that combo, it would hardly get out of it's own way but I really thought I was cool when I cruised around with the top down.

I think I paid around $ 950 for it with my dad doing the negotiating for me. I traded it in 2 years later for a '69 Mach 1 Mustang which was totaled 1 month later when a kid in an old Ford pick-up ran a stop sign and I T-boned him. Luckily, neither one of us was seriously injured.

Somewhere in a box in my basement I still have the circles of vinyl I cut out of the door panels of the Tempest for speakers when I installed a Craig 8-track for some tunes.

In the background of the first picture you can see my parent's '66 Buick Lesabre, the car in which I learned to drive.

I really like this thread. I know some of folks reactions is wistful wonderful sepia toned memories of a great youth, me included. I feel blessed to have been 10 in 1966, and building models of cool cars, seeing them on the street, and a world that was safer and full of fun. My fondest memories of every summer for all of July, spending a month in a beach cabin on Long Beach Island NJ. Long since tore down for rich folks gaudy McBeachMcMansion.

I recently looked on Google maps of my childhood house in Rutherford NJ my folks had built. The aerial photo showed a house with a back addition the size of the original house added on, the large backyard being tiny now, with what was left filled with a huge built in pool. McMansion strikes again. The one cool thing was the Google street view! The front still looked identical! Same white with black shutters, amazing. It was very moving to see.

Thanks - Great info - really like those Raiders songs. Mark Lindsay - great singing voice - so cool with the Spock Ears - With PR & LN Getting a ( KICKS ) out of it !!!! .

Steve, any info on the 40 crashed into the pole in your first post? It looks like an Aussie Sloper.

Here are some old Australian Pontiac ads...the new roadster and caravan is pretty cool.
The one with the woman aint bad either, (though not as risque as the legroom ad)
but I feel like saying to her... "GET OFF THE @#!*DY CAR!!!

Herb Adams spoke at the Trans Am Nationals this year, and it was nice to hear him talk about the Silverbird. They built that thing in a single car garage, and he said that after doing all the bodywork, they really had no idea how the rocker panel area would look because it was in a single car garage.

The Silverbird wasn't too successful, but man, did it look bad ass. I still have some vacu-formed bodies from the late 70's/early 80's of the Silverbird, for a 1/12 scale radio control race car, 1/32, and HO scale slot cars.

I starte going there when it opened and started working there about 78ish.I'm gonna guess i had it 79ish.Some bimbo in Philly wrecked my 69 GP so i bought the Goat.
