Default 225x60x15 or 235x60 Tires.

About to buy new tires for my 67' GTO. I want as big a foot print as reasonable. I've read on threads here that the 70 series tire is too tall and a 60 series will fit best. I don't want any rubbing, scrapeing, or other clearance problems. My rims will be 15x7 with 4 & 3/8 in. backspacing. Would the 235x60, or the 225x60, best fit my 67' for normal street driving & cruising. I will probably order the tires from Summit as they have the best prices. I just don't want to order the wrong size that create problems clearance wise. Thanx!

With your 15x7's and 4.375" BS, a 235/60/15 should fit no problem. That's exactly what I run on the front of my '64 GTO on stock GM steel rims with poverty caps.

On the rear, you should be able to run 235/245/255/60/15's on those wheels safely without rubbing.

Default TheChamp.

Thanks for the tire size info. I also have a set of 15x7 rims that have a 4.125 in. back space. Would the 235x60 tires work with those rims as well?

All of the 15x7 Rallys had the same back space, unless you had 'em custom made they should be 4 3/8" (4.375") back space. I've had 235/60 on 15x7 Rallys on the front of my '66 and had a very slight rub at the bottom rear of the fender on tight turns when going over bumps. Others have run this same setup and been fine. As Champ said, you can run up to a 255/60 on the rear without issues.

I have 15x7 Rally II's on my 67 GTO, I run 235/60/15 on the front and 245/60/15 on the rear with no rubbing or clearance issues at all

Default Backspacing Question.

My Rally II's have the 4 & 3/8 backspacing. I have some Cragar SS wheels, 15x7, that have 4 & 1/8 backspacing. Will that smaller backspacing ( one-quarter in.) cause a problem with the 235x60x15 tires if I do mount them on the Cragar's?

i've had cragars and 225/60/15 tires and they scraped!

backspace makes a big difference!

Yes it does.

Many Cragar's have 3.75" BS, so you might have had those to make a 225/60 scrape.

Anyone prefer one tire over another? If so, what is it? I am looking for an all around tire for dry weather and good traction.
