Turbo Hydramatic 375 Transmission.
Came across a Turbo 375 transmission in a friend's garage. Had been in a 1974 Grand Prix. Supposed to be in good shape and can buy it for $50. I'm not familiar with this 375 and wondering if it is worth buying. Is it as good as a 400 or is it weaker? Is there any demand for the 375? Thanx.

I wouldn't. Is it as good as a 400 or is it weaker? Weaker, a mix between the TH400 and TH350. Has less clutches than a TH400 and a TH350 output shaft. Is there any demand for the 375? No, not really. I'd say pass, good working used TH400s can be had for nearly the same money.

Thanks b-man!
That's exactly the info. I needed. You saved me $50. I suspected this since you hardly ever hear of anyone running a 375. I understand why now. Thanks again.

Probably a small bit weaker than a 400. Internally it is identical to a 400, but as B-man mentioned, has fewer clutches in the clutch packs and a smaller (TH350 size) output shaft.

Easy enough to add different clutch packs and the larger output shaft/tailhousing. Depending on the application, the 350-sized output shaft could make a trans conversion easier.
All this assumes we're NOT talking about a 375B, which is a HEAVY DUTY version of a 350. |

Sure its easy to change the clutch packs, either by machining the drum and piston or getting both from a Th400.. Some of which had 6 in each, but most often had 4-5 frictions and steels in them. The drums are different between transmissions regarding how many frictions and steels you can put in them. |

I had a TH375 in my hot rod behind a 400 for ten years. Pulled the motor and tranny out of the hot rod and put it in my shop truck four years ago.
Fourteen years of abuse and never a hiccup...I'm not complaining. -Abone.
