Default 77 Firebird rear drum brake trouble

Just rebuilding my 77 Firebird rear drums

1 problem:
I bought the raybestos wheel brake cyl.
They doesn't fit because the top of the wheel cylinder is a little bit to high.. I had to cut down it an little so it fits in the drum plate to screw in
See pics

Next question is how to adjust the rear drums...
In normal case the drum plate has at lower section an hole with an rubber you can remove for adjusting the adjusting lever with an screw driver .. This is not possible now...
Have I to make an basically adjustment and push the drum moving nearly freely over the brake pads and the rest is self adjustment via parking brake?

Thx for and help
Some pics....

The rear drum brakes are designed to self-adjust when you are backing up and put on the brakes......if they are working properly.

Just make sure the shoes are centered properly and crank the aduster up...with the drum OFF until you can't get the drum over the shoes.

Then back the adjuster off about 5 notches.

Install the drum and you should be good to go.......

I like to check and manually adjust about every 5000 miles....
