Default # 1 spark plug location

I'm afraid to ask this and look stupid but here goes. Haven't set my timing on my 69 GTO engine in over 20 years. Can't find a cylinder location chart, only a firing order. From a weak memory I'm thinking it's the front plug on the drivers side but need a verification before I hook up the timing lite. Thanks.

You are correct, front one on the driver's side.

Also, # 6 (3rd one back on passenger side) is commonly used because it is on the side of the engine where the timing marks are easier to get to, keeping your timing light wires away from the fan and pulleys. Cylinder # 6 fires fires 360 degrees from cylinder #1, works out the same to your timing marks.
