My heads are stamped "GM" and "16" in the middle.. can you guys help out with the Id? (A '69 Gto with what I think is a 400, not original motor.) I looked for a block stamp on the passenger side on front of motor next to water pump, but see no stamp. any other way to identify block?

The stamped code for the engine would be underneath the passenger side head.

On the back of the block, below the passenger side head would be a Casting block code.It will be like 9790071 for a 1968 400.

the heads are 16 heads possibly from a 1968 400, or a 1970 small valve head. There should be a cast date code below the valve cover.like C128.

So I am correct in assuming that these are not RA III or IV heads?

That's right.

16's could be also 455SD heads if they are round port exhaust!

so D port 16's would not be 455 super duty, but if they have round exhaust ports, and are marked 16, they ARE 455 SD heads?

That would be cool..
