OHC-6 Motor Mount Bolt Spacers
I was recently asked a question if I had ever seen the Motor Mounts for a OHC-6 held onto the block with long bolts with spacers under the heads of the bolts.
I verified that my 67 Firebird with a 4-speed manual trans has them installed, as far as I know they are the original motor mounts on the car. See attached picture. I have noticed these on most 67-69 Sprints I have owned. But most of the car I owned were manual transmission cars. I know my 69 3-speed Firebird sprint & my recently sold 67 Lemans 4-speed Sprint also had them, but my 66 Automatic Lemans Sprint did not.

It was a new one for me. I never took note of this detail before and in all my years of parts and cars can't say I recall them.
I guess the service departments were getting complaints about hard-to-reach bolts and this was the fix.

I agree that it was a manual trans thing
I havent seen any auto trans ones use the long bolt and spacer I just figured they did this to ensure it was torqued correctly

Yup, my 69 Firebird had them when my dad bought it in 1975 with 51k miles on it. Sprint 3-speed originally.
I think they were in place on the 69 LeMans Sprint 4-speed convertible he owned for about a year in 80-81. Midnight green and Parchment, white top. I think it was the best balanced 60s car I've ever driven. Smoothest Muncie too. Wish I'd bought it from him when he got bored with it. Anybody know of a service to search for a vintage car? My cop buddy can't look earlier than 1981. |

einstein, I agree with your assessment of the 69 A-Body sprint driving. The 1st Sprint I ever owned was a 69 Tempest Sprint, 4-speed. It was originally used as a 1/4 racer at Tri-City Dragway in Saginaw MI. That car ran consistent 13.80's when I bought it. The original owner had really dialed it in for the strip. As I mostly used it for daily driving I added Power Steering and a quicker ratio steering box to it. It was a great driving road car, handled very well for an otherwise stock car.

I recently bought a Muncie, picked up at shipper on Monday. Turns out the partial VIN is 29G60xxxx, 69 A-body 6 cylinder Framingham build. Had to be s Sprint. Pretty uncommon, I believe.

I wonder if it was the one I sold a couple of years ago? Course spline input shaft? I cleaned out my storage area and found it laying at the bottom of a pile of OHC-6 parts, Came from my 69 Tempest Sprint. Forgot I had it. The guy I sold it to was unsure if he would use it for the 455 he was building. I told him it would work, and M-20 is a M-20 in Stock form IMO.

Sorry I did not think to take a picture of the partial VIN stamp on the transmission when I sold it, and the Tempest it came from was scrapped in the early 1980's. Long before I knew how rara a car it was.
