Opening bid of $25K with rust at the A pillar? What am I missing? Not for me.

That's one of those cars that looks pretty good, but basically needs everything so you end up sinking a fortune into it.

This White "Y" code TA is not a car worth doing a full resto on. But I do see a nice unmolested 20 footer that can be driven a lot and have fun with, just as it is. Maybe a bit of "fluffing" to improve the obvious external defects like the hole in the flare and cracks in the valance. IMHO, it's worth every penny of its' current $26K bid.

So what do we think it'll bid to?

I'm never a good judge of value. I think this would make a very nice driver and should sell for less than a high dollar restored example and in my mind, could be a better investment long term.

I like the A/C, low miles, Custom interior, plastic front valence albeit broken, same owner 41 years, build sheet.

I don't like auto trans, black interior, white exterior is my least favorite for '73 (but most favorite for '70-'72).

For me, the auto trans is a deal breaker but lots of hobbyists won't be put off by that.

18 months ago a '73 on BaT drew bids to $29k. Buccaneer Red, standard black interior, auto trans. Drew several bidders but also seemed to generate a lot of criticism. I think the one today is a better example, others may disagree.

I haven't any handle on what the non-SD '73 TAs are changing hands for these days so I'm very interested to see where it bids to, especially if it sells.

John,
The auto wouldn't stop me. I'm having the auto changed to a Tremec T-56 in my '73.
What stops me is the rust.

Jim, that will be sweet. I could easily be talked into doing the same but I'm not that creative and rarely think outside the box.

Do you have a thread here detailing the conversion? I'm curious what the shifter will look like, does it work with the OE console, any special parts or fabrication needed, etc.

I'm sure I will stick with the 4 spd Muncie but will envy yours. Doubt I will ever have enough power to break the Muncie but I would love to experience the 2 extra gears. How do the ratios compare the the Muncie (I will be using an M20 rather than the original M21)?

As always, most of you guys are being overly critical..

I see a very decent 47 year old car needing some cosmetics, and that pillar rot addressed. It appears very unmolested. It will make someone a very fine driver.

John here is a link to a thread http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=839167

You will find the transmission posts are scattered over the two pages.

The first four gears are the same as a Muncie M-20. Fifth is a .83 OD and sixth is a .63 OD with a 3.73 out back.

For your information I wasn't going this way at first. It was going to be just a conversion to a Muncie M-20 I had from my '70 TA, RA III exhaust manifolds and true duals. Bilstein shocks and new tires. That all changed when it was found the original 455 had problems.

Here is a link to a 2.5 minute clip of the sound of the engine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjFDfmyE7lQ

The shifter ball is going to be a white ball with the 6 speed pattern.

I like it! Thanks for supplying the links.

You mentioned the hydraulic clutch, I wondered if you would add that.

It all boils down to dollars and cents.. I'd pay 25k if the car was sitting in front of me.

I figured it would end for more, but 30k for a 73 with paint issues, rust in the A-pillars, and some mechanical stuff is still hood money.

Well bought, I'd say. I hope it went to a great home that will appreciate it and address it's relatively minor issues.
