Default '98 G/P HUD

I just bought this G/P GT sedan with 93xxx miles for $3000 I don't think I got hurt. But the HUD fades in and out from time to time. If I tap on the dash pad sometimes it will come back on. Is this common? Is it a loose wire or connection?
Also, whats the cheapest easiest way to give it a bit more oomph? Thanks.

Yes it is a common problem with the GP's and Bonneville SSEi's but it can be fixed.
