Shay Hoog Becomes a Pontiac Man Today
My 16 year old son just got his first Pontiac today, it's going to take a bit of work but it is in pretty good condition so far.

Welcome to the Pontiac Family! They all need some work to get them where you want them. Gotta start somewhere.

And we will finally use the Weld wheels I bought from PY user Mr. Pushrod I think? Almost a decade ago.

Well if this was a 69-71 GTO body I would be screaming for joy at this point; but since it's not I'm scratching my head. So to the Ventura experts I now ask what does this probable factory stripes mean?

A sprint had a factory stripe. Does it have buckets seats, sport mirrors and a sport wheel?

Bench, regular wheel, and right mirror holes in door covered over with puddy. Regular on Left. Cut pile carpet.

From what I can make out of the front end, it is a 73. Most 73's had the split grill. It looks like your car has the fiberglass front header pannel with the egg crate grills. These grills are different from 74, as the 74 has a honeycomb grill pattern. The 73 nose is flatter than the 74. Show us a better picture of the front end, and we can verify that for you. 74 header pannel is steel, not fiberglass. Can't see the front bumper good enough to tell if it's correct. The front end along with the door stripe leads me to believe you have a Ventura Sprint, but you would have to send into PHS to verify this.

Regardless of whatever sheetmetal is right or wrong, it is a 74. Also to my puzzlement it has Custom call out tags yet the VIN says regular Ventura.

Also, are the V8 frame engine mounts the same as 1st Gen F Body?

The front sub frame is the same as a 1st gen, which is perfect for a 428 and long branch manifolds.

So what's the plan?

Sanding and beer, or beer and sanding. Not sure which sounds better.....
Find frame motor mounts, order crossmember when I get to work tomorrow and then stick that 326 in it. |

A couple of more questions
On rear wheel, would a 15x8 and 4.5 back space work or does it need 5.5 back space and or only a 15x7 to get in the tub. Is this rearend the same as the 1 Gen or 2 Gen F Body rears; or maybe unique to the X Body? |

It is the same width as 1st gen but the 1st gen has a 8.2 and '72 and up Ventura's had 8.5 10 bolts.

Nice, thank you.
I think I already knew the answer to the wheel and just didn't think; I stuck one of my Corvette rims on there and it was fine. |
