CNC full port Tiger dyno results
Hi guys,
An update on the Catalog full port Tiger head as sold thru All Pontiac.We just finished Frank G's engine with a set of these. The engine is 541c.i., 15.2:1 comp ratio ,wet sump, cast manifold (the ugly Tiger prototype) and single dominator. 1067h.p. @7200 and 818tq. @6300. This is still a glorified bracket race engine with a well developed CNC "cookie cutter" head ,the same head anyone can buy. Thanks for all the kind words when Bob C. posted flow numbers back in December, now the heads are real! More to come. Cheers, Johnny

You guys need to get your act together. This is what was posted on PZ....which is correct???
"Hello everyone we have an update on CFMCNC catalog full port Tiger head as sold by Allpontiac,today we finished single four barrel,cast manifold testing. With the tiger manifold machined for shear plate we made 1055 HP at 7300rpm and 808 torque at 6300 rpm,engine is 541cu-in at 15.2 cr wet sump with vacuum pump 13 in vac.This is a glorified bracket race engine with a well enginered cookie cutter cnc ported head,head flow is 450 cfm at .900 lift as measured on our Superflow 600 bench at 28 in test pressure".

cfmcnc I guess at some point we will have to try the All Pontiac intake with a big cfm terminator Maybe a cam change. You are a dedicated person,glad I waited. Thanks Don.

Hi Don,
Manifold sits about 9 1/4 in. high off the bench with 1/2 shear plate. Maybe Frank will send you one to test fit? Actually I have one here...duh! Let me know, Johnny

Should make a nice top Sportsman motor. 1067hp with single 4 and wet sump sound pretty strong. Sounds fairly maintenance free. You plan on selling a "crate" motor with such a combo? I would like to see what you guys do with a "max" build.

Curious what tube diameter headers were used on the dyno pulls? Timing? Fuel?

How much less HP with 4 points less compression?

I would guess around 8% (84hp). I believe they could still make over 1000hp with a 541 and tiger heads on pump gas. I'm sure there would be other changes in the motor to get there. It would not be just dropping comp. on that motor alone.

This is one of the nastiest street driven T/A's I've seen 950 hp ( 7200 rpm ) 537 IA II-
Tiger heads etc. no nitrous --any more info on this beast .

Sorry John, I don't have any idea what the cam profile is. I would guess its pretty strong but not over the top. I do know Frank was after a durable low maintenance engine that had some a$$. I think this motor is a good combo of both. Not something you have to change springs and head gaskets on a regular basis. Its nice to see Pontiacs are capable of such.

I could not have said it better myself. Thats exactly what we're after. The balance of low maintainance and good power. Frank G. and I wanted to show what the catalog head could do. I don't know if there will be a Crate version of this,have to talk that out with frank. It might be an engine kit. I won't lie to you...the cam is pretty snotty. But we have some real good valvetrain parts to take advantage of that. Nextek triple valve springs, titainium valves, 7/16 to 3/8 taper thick wall pushrods, all the stuff you need to have at this level. Head gaskets are always a concern on these things, but we think our proceedure on start up has helped out. We also feed cool water into the side of the head between the valves. Frank has had pretty good luck so far (with head gaskets).We halve made the combustion chamber shape better as the engine only wants 31 degrees of timing. There is a "max" build coming as we had to get power out of the basic full port head first. I won't let the cat out of the bag too early, but I have some Tigers here that are...let's just say unconventional! Some here might know about that. See ya, John

Any other specifics coming such as valve lift, duration at .050", header pri dia, collector dia, oil pan, etc.? Could we get some pics of combustion chamber, intake port, exh port and inside manifold? Thanks for going the extra mile, Jim |

Hi Jim,
Thanks! I can't release cam specs right now as we learned a lot about the cam over the past few weeks, I hope you understand. I have been meaning to take pictures of the heads but keep forgetting. I will try to take some of a finished set I have here before we ship them. The manifold is one of the first ones that were cast and I hacked on it to balance the runners so Frank could test it on the car. I don't have pictures of it. It's machined for a shear plate on top, so it's cut out real big at the carb pad and blended in. The manifold is UGLY! I used it as a prototype to correct the casting houses issues and had loaded it with epoxy around the outside of the plenum and never bothered to hide it. Interestingly, we dyno tested the final "as cast" manifold for one pull. It was matched to the full port window and has casting flash knocked off the plenum opening... that's it! It was within 10 h.p. and 5 ft. lbs. of Frank's prototype. All Pontiac is selling the manifolds now. So it's safe to say that the box stock manifold will support 1,050h.p. with a port match.
