Aluminum Ram Air Vs
Just unboxed a set V heads from McCarty Racing. Very interesting pieces. These will change the complexion of the Pontiac racing community...
These arrived very well packaged and came with seats and guides installed. Observations as delivered: Outward appearance - Casting quality is very good with very, very minimal flaws and no porosity noted on machined surfaces. Machine work also appears to be of very good quality with nice finish work. Note at this point I have not actually bolted them on a block yet. Intake ports measured just a tick over 2.15" diameter :-) Intake flange is raised just a tick over .65" from the valley cover edge :-) Intake throat dia is 1.935"; Exhaust throat dia is 1.489" :-) Combustion chambers measured +4.270" across Valve cover rail is angled 14 degrees compared to the stock Pontiac 20 degree angle as measured from the deck. It appears the outer portion of the valve cover rail is approximately .390" higher than an uncut E head...FYI just in case you want to run your power brake booster. :-) Two oil drain back holes positioned adjacent to what would be #2 and #4 (or #3 and #5) exhaust valve spring pocket. No pushrod holes drilled for either exhaust or intake. Port work appears very nicely crafted with generous widths and short turn radiuses on both intake and exhaust. :-) More to follow on flow volumes and miscellaneous Jim |

I think this marks the first time anyone has ever fully documented the release of an aftermarket head for a Pontiac. We never even got this much information when the Edelbrocks first came out. Good job.

Maybe Im missing something but -- why no push rod holes? Dont the intakes go thru the port and need special attention ? What valve size are these going to be built for ?

Aluminum V parts are very cool and I am humbled by the opportunity to work them.
Brian, If I was in the market for a set of heads I would be interested in some of the basic dimensions...seems simple enough to provide detailed data for those interested. cgeise, We will be installing the pushrod openings/tubes here. Valve sizes will be close to originals 2.19/1.73. Jim |

Very Nice looking castings Indeed. I really like the width at the short turn. Top notch castings for sure. Great job Lynn. Jim keep us posted on flow #'s as you progress with porting.

Recommend you ask Lynn about the minimum chamber volume design...not sure how much material exists for milling. I have not measured the chambers in these because we have not machined valve seats.
These measure a very consistent 2.088" width at the beginning of the shortturn. :-) These are destined for a 4.120" bore so we are inclined to install a valve smaller than a 2.190". Valve are placed such that .133" is between an installed 2.190" intake and a 1.770" exhaust...so shrouding could be an issue on smaller bores. 2.190" + 1.770" + .133" = 4.093" across the valves. Waaay cool. This is a pontiac head - that'll help sales alone. I've always said if someone recast a ramair IV head for the street in aluminum that was comparable to an ehead/ported ehead - it'd sell well.

I'm not sure I understand that statement - an ehead is basically an aluminum ramair IV head? Just buy a set of those and grind of the edelbrock script. Now a true repro ramair IV head might sell for those that want to class race or restore cars...
