I often wonder what happens to the movie cars that get wrecked during filming? Like all the TA’s and other cars used in the Bandit movies as well as many others over the years, do they crush them or sell them, hmmmmmmm

Theres no set rule as to what happens to the cars. Some are auctioned off by the studios, others scrapped. Those from period films (before present day) are leased/rented from owners for the duration of the filming.

When the Punisher movie was made they came to town(Tampa) looking for GTO parts and contacted my buddy who had a stash.
He sold them quite a few parts, fenders, etc. but not a whole car. I believe that one of the Punisher cars was sold off to a private citizen in the Orlando area(Terry Speer) and he tried to capitalize on it by selling it as one of the cars during the movie...don't know what ever happened to the car |

I know there’s a lot of movies where you just see a classic driving in a scene or along a curb or in a parking lot, I’ve been approached a few times to have mine in a scene in a movie, but I politely declined. Way to many papers to sign. But the cars that actually get crashed I wonder what they do with them, I know some of those movies use sometimes 5 to 10 cars to get the perfect shot so I wonder first where do they get that many and second where are they now?

I figure documenting an older movie car is 100X harder than actually finding a legitimate one. |

There's a classic car auction here every spring and fall . One year, they auctioned off a crashed Dukes of Hazard Charger. It went for a good buck, too, or at least I thought. I don't know why someone would buy a crashed car, provenance or not. The car was toast, bent like a banana. An expensive conversation piece in my mind.

I bought my 70 GTO from a guy that rented muscle cars to the studios. He had two 442 convertibles plus my car in his stable. My car had a small amount of fire and smoke damage resulting from a scene where the studio set off a small fire/ smoke event for a particular shot. The only damage was to the A/C wiring in the engine compartment.

My friend had his 49 olds in the movie the finest hour. He was paid as a extra and car was separate fee. He paid for the car in the one week of filming. Took him over a year to get the fake snow out from all the crevices.
