I'm just beginning the restoration of my 65 GTO. It did not come with
a/c. Living in Fla., I will probably want to install air, down the road. It
appears I have a 3 corel radiator, (no shroud). Will that handle the job? I
don't want to go to the expence of having the original rodded and painted,
and then have to repace it with a 4 core when I install air. Thanks for the
advice.

P.S. 4-speed. 400 CID (not original engine)

Put in the 4 core listed in the Performance Years/Year One/Ames catalogs that matches the size of your existing radiator. Get the fan shroud, and make sure you have a big 7 blade fan.

And good luck on your project.

Agree with the champ!

4 core will help a great deal plus being new.

Need the shroud.

Need the good thermostatic clutch and fan.

Buy the radiator that is correct for your trans
(auto vs manual) but if you have an auto ALSO
run an aux trans cooler before the inlet to the radiator. This will lower your water temps even more. Tom V.

I am also doing a 65 GTO. Everyone that has one complains about it overheating in traffic. I agree with the other guys on the 4 core, shroud, and fan but that may not be enough. The cars with ac used a larger fan so you may have to replace yours. I found a water pump from Summit that claims to increase flow by 30%. I got it and it looks like a good design. It is different from the original in that it has larger fins and has a plate welded to the rear of the fins to better force the water around. This is supposed to be a more efficient design. Unfortuantely, I am still building the engine so I cannot tell you if it really works.
