Default can't get heater to shut down

Hi guys. For some reason my vents are putting out hot air all the time. If I turn the heat on, and the fan on, then I get even more warm air. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this? Thanks everyone.

This is an a/c 69 SJ with automatic climate control.

On my bird the vacuum hose popped off the firewall which I assume controlled the vents...

On my old 76 GP I had the same condition caused by the nipple braking off the vacuum globe under the hood, replaced the globe problem solved. I hope yours is as easy to find and fix.

Those ATC systems complicate things. I'd have a look at the ATC section in the 69 shop manual. A lot of different components could cause your issue.

This is very much correct. I had ATC in a 66 2+2. Lots of vacuum lines, vacuum actuators and sensors. It could also be the control head in the dash. I hope it's something easy. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my 69 SJ. The ATC controller was frozen. It has an arm that operates the vent in the firewall for the heater core which was stuck open. Hot air all the time. it also controls all the vacuum lines. it is behind the passenger side kick panel. There is a guy in California, Paul Margozzi who rebuilds them. He did mine. He is very thorough.
if you don't care about climate control, remove your air ducts and force the baffle shut. You will need to do something to secure it, I tried just pulling it shut but it soon reopened. You might also want to disconnect the ATC arm.

you could also bypass the heater core if you don't care about climate control.
