Default PS Pump Pressure Line O-Ring help needed

Replaced the PS pump on my owned since new ‘04 GP.

When I pulled the pressure line after loosening the connecting nut, the line came out with a “pop”.

I did not see an o-ring. I reassembled the line without one but of course it leaks. I looked into the old pump fitting, no o-ring. I looked in the debris in my drain pan, still nothing. Had to wrestle the pump every which way to get it to come out so who knows where it may have fallen out.

So I’m looking for someone who knows the size of the o-ring I need.

Is this something I should be able to walk into my NAPA store and they’ll know what o-ring I need?

Well I figured out the p/n, 26001594.

I drove about 50 miles each way to a Chevy dealer figuring it was a unique o-ring. Two closer Chevy dealers didn’t have it in stock.

It is just a small, common o-ring. And I got hosed for $16.34.

Worst part, when I pulled the wheel off, I could see the pressure line was dry at the fitting. And when I pulled the line back out, there was the original o-ring still on the line. I never saw it when I had it out.

I blame poor lighting and bad eyesight, getting too old for this nonsense. I did install the new o-ring. The old one looked deformed a bit. For what I paid, the new one should have a lifetime warranty.

It is now back together and I’m heading out for another test drive. There is the off chance that spilled PS fluid on the chassis was what was dripping after my first test drive.

But I suspect it is either leaking from a rack seal or from the lines attached to the rack.

If so, I’ll give up and take it to a shop.

Harbor Freight has O ring kits for under $10. I always have a metric, and SAE kit in my garage. It saves a lot of headaches when I need an O ring on a weekend etc. These cover 99% of every O ring need I have run into.

Link to O ring kits:

https://www.harborfreight.com/search...er%20o%20rings

When I worked on aerial lift equipment on site, (which is all hydraulically operated) I had 2 kits on my truck which saved my bacon many times when I was in the middle of nowhere, at 8 PM at night, with a leaking machine that they needed fixed yesterday..........

Between SAE and metric, I could usually find one that would work. If I took an O ring into say a Parker store, all they do is haul out their o ring kit, and match it up to the sample, I can do the same thing onsite with my stock onboard.

Brad, I called my wife after seeing that it was a std o-ring and getting hosed and told her that I could have bought a kit at HF for $10 and probably gotten 10 of the size needed in the kit.

The line continued to leak so I gave in and took it to a local shop. He replaced the pressure line and all is good.

When I lamented that I probably didn’t really need to replace the pump, I think in an attempt to make me feel better, he said that the pumps are susceptible to cavitation damage if run dry so he figured it was probably good that I replaced it.

I didn’t ask but I bet the $50 pressure line included new o-rings so I’ll never forget Chevy charging me $16.34 for the one I didn’t even need in the end.

Oh well.
