Original Spark Plug Wire Help!
I refurbished my 1977 Trans Am distributor while cleaning what I believe to be the original spark plug wires. They are gray and labeled PACKARD DELCORE ELECTRONIC SUPPRESSION 8MM. Does anyone know if they are original 1977 GM plug wires? Can I still get original or 8MM wires? Will someone please suggest a quality replacement plug wire. As always, thanks so much for your help.

If they have year also printed on them they are likely original, they were available for some years after but didn't have the year as spares. Don't toss them, even if no good, good for checking lengths if you wanted to collect your own set or make a set since most sets off the shelf are generic, probably based on a SBC with aftermarket lead brackets for neatness. GM factory lengths weren't known for being that way, if that's what you want to redo them as. Many replacements don't have the little nub that the distributor cap clips over. Doesn't matter, it did nothing, but a detail feature nonetheless.

Buy a nOS roll of wire on eBay and make your own. Use your rubber insulators

If no cracks and don't feel brittle, they may be fine.

yes those are OEM wires;
As mentioned, original wires are date coded. I have a partial roll of that wire here that my brother grabbed when he worked at a local dealer (they hadn't used it in long enough, that they were going to toss it), my roll is dated 2Q87, or second quarter 1987. Odds are that very few people will know to look, or even notice that original grey packard wires were dated.

Classic spark plug wires
Thank you guys so much. I didn't realize the Q 1 81 on the wires was a date. I'm always amazed at the knowledge you all have. Thanks again. Guess I'll be checking resistance on these classic wires.

Those top insulators with the nipples on are getting harder to find. So are the gray plastic clips. also you need the ring on top of the coil.
You might as well route the wire like the factory did, usually the big manual shows routing and what clip goes where |
