81 TO 79 SWAP OUT
who here has taken all the turbo stuff out of an 81 and made it more like a 79 with the 79 wire harness ect ?

My 81 has a Qjet 400 in it no ECM. Standard wiring like a 79. The 81 temp gauge uses a different ohm range sender than a 78 does.

thanks for the tip. I'm pulling my dash and putting in the new harness this summer/fall. was wondering if Ill have trouble switching over or if it will just be plug and play after the old one is out.

Hard to know if plugs and positions the same. Get some wiring diagrams could help. I was already missing the harness for the computer when I got mine. I just traced oil pressure, water temp, alternator etc wires and hooked them up. I had a 78 water sensor in it when we broke the came in and freaked out looked like it was overheating but not on a temp gum until I found 81 had a different ohm rating and a different thread size also.

my temp gauge reads high as well and the temp gun verifies no overheating.

Could be gauge or sender but 81 sender is needed for 81 gauge..
