Default Interesting to follow '70 TA on BAT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...rd-trans-am-8/

I like it. I know engine is not original and the interior was bright blue, but that is OK....still a '70 TA. Someone will get a nice car.

Looks like it was a fairly rust free solid example. Too bad about the missing original engine, but double silly to put the RAIV decals on the shaker, especially when true RAIV TA's didn't get them.
I'm tempted to bid,.....but I already have an M21 Blue '70, so.......

Painted for this sale. How good can flipper paint jobs be?
The chevy carb, and the inline fuel filter.. ugh.
Is trans original ? Rear end? Gears?
Obviously the seller is just a flipper..
I would use caution and visit this in person if interested.
"Done" is a relative term .

I've been looking for a non numbers A/C car I can build on

This one happens to be close by, so I'd like to check it out this weekend

Trying to contact seller, but have to register to BAT to get his email (doh!!)

This car is perfect for a resto mod or Pro-Tour transformation.

All that and they put a cheep steering wheel cover on it? Steering wheels aren't that expensive. But, for the right price it may not be a bad car.

If I could I would do a IAII 535 with a T-56 in this car. Front coil overs and upper and lower tubular control arms. Rear converted to coil overs. Updated 12 bolt or a Ford 9-inch rear. 3.73 gears. Oh, and four wheel disc brakes. Final touch would be sub-frame connectors. No wheel upgrades. I would use the JW's with 255/60's all around.

Just a dream.

You made me go back and look;
I thought I was mistaken, but nope;
That's a 1969 Pontiac 400/auto carb;
It's the '69 version of a 7040264.

I actually got my notification of this car just before it went live;
My initial reaction was that it was a nice looking car.

I can look past deficiencies considering it hasn't been mucked with.

I was quite surprised to see the 'YS' engine complete with standard exhaust manifolds - it makes me wonder if the engine there was just bought as a "replacement" period 400 in decades bygone;
That also makes me wonder if the EUN (0023693) would indicate it's a '69 engine or '70 engine.
The only pieces that are distinguishable from the provided pictures are:
  • "log" exhaust manifolds
  • 1970 intake manifold (casting number shown)
  • '69 Pontiac L78 Quadrajet

The paperwork from the engine work done in 2015 indicates it has "ram air 3" cam (back of sheet) - but everything is covered up to the point that I cannot tell what heads it has.

It does appear to me to have more correct, or period correct parts than many cars that have been put back together.
It has the correct power steering pump which seems to be one of the tell-tale signs of someone just swapping in any old engine - it also has the correct throttle cable bracket, and I dare say that wrong engine and interior colour aside, it still presents well, and could be a good buy for the right person.

Well, this sucks

I placed a bid while out on the road earlier today and immediately got outbid (expected)

Figured I'd wait unitl the last minute like everyone else, so I timed everything right and even put a GoPro in front of my laptop

Placed my final bid in the last moments the screen froze

The comments were still flowing in the background, but the actual bidding pop up was just super slow

I actually bid more than the winner

When I tried to post about it in the comments, it was immediately removed

Could it be that I was flagged cause I'm newly registered to BAT?

I was a bidder at 45k about 6 minutes before your bid. Thought about going to 50k but didn't pull the trigger.

At near $50K, I would never have bid on that car without seeing it in the flesh. Wrong engine, wrong interior, wrong wheels, etc. And even worse, a seller who was either unable or unwilling to provide more details and specifics on the car and its parts, but was full of wildly huckster-ish claims.

The body looked solid in the resto pics, and if the paint job was REALLY good, it was probably a fair deal. But the pictures provided weren't sufficient to evaluate paint surface quality, and in the images the color looked too light. Could just be the images, though.

That's odd - I don't think they would block you for being a first time bidder. Plenty of cars have sold to first time bidders. I would definitely follow up with them to get an answer.
Wouldn't feel too bad about missing out on that car, either

I've tried contacting the seller several times hoping to go see it since I'm local, but got no response.

If it were out of state, I probably wouldn't have bothered bidding.

I liked what I saw in the photos and if the car was close that, I would've been satisfied, but again, I would've had to eyeball it myself before exchanging any funds...

BAT actually reached out to me after removing the comments I made a few hours after the auction ended.

According to them, everything was working on their end, but somehow my local clock was out of sync with their server's clock (I have no idea what that means as I'm a puter idjit)

I guess they removed my comments to avoid any conflict with the seller

I mean, it would suck if it was in fact a system error that caused them to lose a few grand, but it was most likely some goof up on my end

Sent them a link to my screen recording and asked if I would still be able to contact the seller (the click to contact link disappeared after the auction ended), but no response yet.

Default Bat listing

Snake eater, after you asked about contacting seller on July 7 post, the seller replied with a Ph# in Smithtown. BAT took it down almost immediately. I have it on my e-mail notification if interested. PM me

Mike

Keith K, re comment about unwillingness to supply info other than just saying OK its not the original motor after insisting it was, then silence. One thing no one seemed to comment on is that data plate appears to have been tampered with and was mostly unreadable.
