Yes before they tear down these icons of Pontiac history, I thought I'd take this pic of my car in front of the place where the body was assembled.

Fisher Body, Baldwin Avenue, Pontiac, MI

Beautiful picture, Norm. I should do that too.

Was that today, that you took the picture?

Is your car black? or dark blue?

Default Trans Am Specialties, Home of the Bandit

Here are two photos I snapped last week.
The building was the original location of Trans Am Specialties in the mid 80's
The building later became a swimming pool store then a few sandwich shops.
Its now being renovated again but they pulled off the facsade and the original sign is now showing.

The latest Dealership artwork of Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac By Dave Snyder. It will be out soon.

I like the fact that Dave put my verdoro green 428 '68 GTO convertible Royal Bobcat with it's Royal Pontiac license plate right up front on Main St. In the day it would have been exactly where I would have parked as I walked the lot. Nice to see the Jim Wangers '69 Judge again with it's Royal Bobcat emblem where I put it up on the sail panel instead of on the door stripe.

Arnie Bewick's freinds '68 GTO is in the background, "like its original magazine cover shot", having a 428 installed.

after mapquesting the above post i found that it's the same street, a few miles apart.
here is the google earth pic of the latter location, (where the car in my signature was sold), as it looked in 2010. empty.

also; Dave pyles motors, in marlow heights, md, location, as it looks in 2010. this is where my orange GTO was sold.

Default Pontiac Dealer/Greenville, SC

Here is a picture taken, I would guess September of 1952 advertising the new '53 models.
Erecting that Wheel was probably quite a task.
I took the other picture of my car in front of the building sometime last Summer. The building was torn down just a few months ago.

Id call the owners of the building and ask what they want for it and you'll take it down. Never hurts to ask.

Thats really cool. If walls could talk and you could get the original paperwork (we all know that's not possible). Even though the dealer is gone, your lucky to be driving past the place that sold it to its first owner 46 years ago. Id say your lucky because most of us don't have that ability.

Just to follow up on this thought: many of these buildings have stood vacant and dormant for many many years....but not any more.

There has been a huge push to dismantle these buildings in the Pontiac area and work has begun on the Baldwin/Joslyn/Montcalm facility. Starting at the north end the Shipping Building (#16) and the Metal Stamping plant (#15) are now gone and only piles of debris remain.

Following Norm's lead I'll get the GTO over to Baldwin Rd for some pics. Hopefully it won't be too late.

I was always under the impression (from reading The Big "Little GTO" Book & Wangers' "Glory Days") that Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac dealership, home of the Bobcats, was flattened into a parking lot - I guess not?

Nope. Building complex is still standing at 400 N Main in Royal Oak. The city is currently trying to figure out what to do with it now that Jim Fresard has vacated.

See pics in post #179 (unless that's what made you think to comment).

Thanks Keith - another mecca I have to travel to when I get to Detroit I guess. Good to know it is still there; yes your pics prompted my confusion. These places should be given some historic recognition in and around Detroit - they are a big part of the history & culture of the city. Too bad.

I would be happy to show you around if you make it out this way.

I have a regular "abandoned factory tour" that I run for my out-of-town Pontiac or automotive enthusiast guests.
