Default similiar models to grand prix

how many different models are similiar to a 1979 grand prix. I've been finding many different things that fit from other cars(el camino, grand am, cutlass--but very few). But my question what is the closest when I'm looking for parts? Will pull straps from an el camino fit a grand prix. How similiar are the doors? I have a parts break down for my car, but not for any other, so it gets difficult when your looking and someone says it will fit--but do you believe them if you don't have a parts break down of their car? Let me know what's similiar and maybe I'll purchase a parts list of it--or if anyone has parts list of other cars that are comparable to the 78-80 grand prixs--it would be most appreciated.
Thanks again

You have a tall order there. You could buy the sales brochures on ebay to see the different models to get acquainted. Generally speaking, the exterior sheet metal all differs between models. The dashes differed, the lower door panels were shared, some of the interior plastic trim was shared.
The engines weren't shared mostly but there are exceptions. Behind the engines and front suspensions were mostly shared, but there are exceptions.
You can always ask the forum about a specific part. Good luck.

As to the 79 Grand Prix, virtually all of the 78 to 80 Grand Prix parts are the same, except front spindles, brakes, gauge colors, taillights, front grilles, and interior colors. I've got some NOS 78-80 stuff, as well as 79 specific if you're in the market. Steve

thanks Steve!

what do you have of NOS parts that you mentioned?
I'm looking for interior plastic in blue(light to medium-i think)
and I found pull straps and covers for an el camino--do you know off hand if they'd fit?
thanks again,
jason

Have no interior plastic, but I see on ebay quite often.
The pull straps may fit, but I doubt if they would be the correct ones for a good restoration job. Straps had different center grooves. Also, the covers on the ends for a Chevy are totally different from a GP. Chevy's are flat rectangles, Gps are long and curved.

I have too much stuff to list here, but it does include GM repair manuals and parts catalogs. Private message me for specific needs or wants.

Steve
