How to tell if my 81 has the original engine
301 turbo. Thanks for any help.

Look for the 2 letter engine stamp on the face of the block under the passenger side head, under that should be the partial vin that should match the last digits of the cars vin#. Transmission will have a vin stamp too.

Gonna have to do some scrubbing to find it. After a couple searches on here sounds like the 301 stamping is a little harder to find/read.

Just looked at my 81 and the engine code should be stamped on the block right behind/under the heater hose connection on the timing cover, will be BO or CJ for 81. The partial vin# should be down closer to the balancer stamped vertically on the same side.
Hope you find yours is original, but good chance it is since these motors usually got pulled for 400/455 engines, not another 301. |
