Well, after 72 distractions over the last few years (pun intended) , it's time to focus on 'Sister.' Sister was purchased back in 2011 and worth saving so, after purchase she was put on the back burner. Well it's finally her turn.
The last few projects were pretty intense, so we are going to have a little fun with this one. I stress 'a little' but it will be fun. Back when, and thanks to RAFormulas the anchor component of the interior was sourced, namely the 'pizza stand' 8-track mounting bracket specific to these super rare and highly sought after column shift TA's. More recently, Jim Robertson from these forums took a peak into the numbers matching YE 455HO and gave a thumbs up that the engine can be saved (more on that later) so that anchored the engine bay. So what better place to start than the beginning! Here we goooo!!!

Happy New Year to the Forums.
Another year has gone by so it must be time to update this thread. Jim Robertson from the forums has been working on the YE engine for this car. He call recently and said the engine was ready to dyno. Yay. Before going into the results of the dyno session here's a bit of a backstory. To say this car had been mistreated in a previous life is an understatement. Pictures speak for themselves, but it was obvious the YE was home to a family of critters at one time. The first picture is what I came upon the day we picked up the car. Thank goodness the Moroso??? valve covers oil cap openings were taped over to prevent moisture from getting in the engine!! Then, during engine teardown, a few more surprises were found. Not only were the pistons frozen in the cylinders, but the layers of rust in the bottom end were enough to scare even the most optimistic that this engine might not have a chance of coming back from the dead. But, after a few months soaking in Liquid Wrench things loosened up, the teardown was completed, and it was time to see if she could be resurrected.

Engine rebuild was tedious and meticulous. Things started looking up for the YE until finally dyno day arrived December 29, 2016.
This is my second engine to be built by Jim. The results for the YE are extremely similar to the '72 TA WD that we dyno'd in 2013. Those results are posted on page 93 of the 455 HO Forum: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...538654&page=93 During our day in the dyno, in addition to recording the results of the performance of the YE, we also did some experimentation with exhaust equipment testing OEM manifolds, Hooker Super Comp. headers and the infamous Ron Watt Tribal Tri Y headers. Those results will be posted in a new thread on the forums in the coming days. Finally, results for the YE: 7042270 carb with CE rods (CR is stock but the engine ran lean so CE's helped by about 10HP) 38 degrees BTDC timing Horsepower: 475 HP Torque: 541 ft-lbs We could not be happier with the results. An unbelievable build. Thank you Jim Robertson!! https://vimeo.com/197687895 https://vimeo.com/197688223 https://vimeo.com/197688407

Wow, that block looked bad! I thought my rust 400 block I have was destined to become a coffee table, but if you managed to save that, maybe I can save mine?
Those are some killer numbers! The car should be a blast!

Some great numbers there. Think you might drive this one a bit more than the last one ?

Nice saving of that engine. Wow, I haven't pulled any apart myself but that looked ugly.

QUOTE" 38 degrees BTDC timing
Horsepower: 475 HP Torque: 541 ft-lbs" on "CR is Stock" THis, is impossible at 8.2, or 8.4:1 .. IMHO... Block decked? , Pistons have under 5 cc relief's ?, Height in cylinder>? Whats the Pressures at? Not trying to Diss on it, I absolutely Love it.. but..... its a 330 HP engine

Just a clarification, my reference to CR is the carb jetting. We changed from CR rods to CE rods to rich the fuel mixture. Compression ratio is stock around 8.4. The block is not decked. Reading the posts on page 93 of the 455HO Forums is a good starting point for how it's done. Balanced rotating assembly. A great valve grind. 1.65 rockers, a custom designed cam grind, some head porting to improve cfm flow. Those are some of the improvements done. There is more but the rest is over my head. Maybe Jim can chime in and explain some of the other tweaks to reach this power. One thing I can assure you, it's not impossible. The results speak for themselves.
