Default 70 Bonneville EFI fuel tank

A few years back, I fuel injected the 455 in my 70 Bonneville. At the time, my
options for a fuel tank were quite limited. Nobody makes a replacement for
the '65-70 fullsize car tanks (at least that I've ever found), and certainly nobody
was making an EFI ready one.

After some digging, I settled on a tank from Tanks Inc that was intended for a
'65-6 Parisienne. It wasn't an exact fit, but with a little bit of work, I made it fit
by welding up a custom set of tank straps.

In the years since, I've been continuing to check out the various options that
have been released to help swap EFI into older cars. I had no intention of cutting
my mint original tank in any way, so any kits that required cutting were out.

Not that long ago, Holley released their Muscle Car EFI modules that make use
of their Hydramat product. You can check them out here:

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...r_efi_modules/

Obviously there isn't one there for a '65-70 fullsize, but the kit for the '70-73
Camaro and Firebird is close, since the tanks are similar in depth. I bought
one and spent some time checking it out. My suspicions were correct, and
with just a few small tweaks, I was able to rework the '70-73 Fbody kit to drop
into my '70 Bonneville tank.

The Holley kit includes an in-tank 58 PSI regulator, as its intended primarily
for LS swaps. As a result, it only has a single line coming from the sender.
I ended up removing the C5 Corvette filter/regulator that I had been using,
and swapped it for a conventional inline filter.

The result is that I now have my original tank bank in the car, and the setup
is working great. I'm really impressed by the Hydramat product. Clearly my
original tank isn't baffled, but I wanted to see how well the Hydramat would
pick up fuel on the bottom of the stock tank. I did my first test drive with only
5 gallons of fuel in the tank, and wasn't able to get the engine to stumble or
misbehave with some fairly aggressive driving (its a convertible, so I'm not
autocrossing or anything - I just threw it hard into some nearby highway
onramps and offramps).

So, what's the point of my post you might be asking yourself?<g>

1 - If you've been thinking of trying Hydramat, or any of the Muscle Car EFI
modules, I'd say go for it. They seem very well made, and I'm certainly happy
with my results - especially since I'm not using it as the manufacturer
intended.

2 - If anybody is interested in the lightly used fuel tank and EFI setup that I
removed for their '65-70 fullsize car, send me a PM. Its sitting in my garage
ready for a new home. I'll include the C5 Vette filter setup with it. The only
catch is that it would be pickup only in Tewksbury MA.

Some really nice work there and very nice write-up.
Thanks!!!!

Because you posted in the Boost / EFI section, I assume the vehicle is EFI Only right now?
Planning on some Boost in the future?? Not that just EFI is not really cool.

That's correct - the car is EFI now, and will stay that way pretty much indefinitely.
The GM PCM I'm using to control everything is responsible for running both the
engine as well as the 4L80E I've got behind it, and I have no intention of giving
up either one!<g>

One of these days I may throw a few PSI at it - probably in the form of a
centrifugal setup, just for the ease of packaging and install. But before I
do that, I still need to get my LS1 ignition coil swap finished. I'm done with
the coil brackets, but summer weather got in the way and I shelved the
rest of the conversion til this coming winter.
