Default SD lifter Valley brace?

Hope everyone is having a good Holiday week. I am looking to make a few tweaks on the top end of my 461, which includes installing the standard SD lifter brace.

Has anyone here installed the brace in a fully assembled short block (minus cam of course)?

According to the instructions it can be done, but Butler is recommending the crank be removed.

Not the end of the world, but was really hoping not to disassemble the bottom end!

I would remove the crank, yes and the 4 center pistons, or at least remove there caps so you can push them to the top of each bore.

I hope you have one. I just ordered one from Butler, back order, 4-6 weeks.

Are you talking about the mega brace that bonds and bolts in? If so a stock block will need to have some of the casting flash removed also.

I installed mine in a bare block. I did a lot of grinding on the block and some on the brace itself to make it fit nicely. I'm sure it could be installed in an assembled engine but it would be tough!

I installed the two piece kit in my motor last winter. It was still assembled but the casting flash around the bottom of the lifter bores was already ground off previously when the motor was originally built. It was pretty easy to install. The brace pieces fit the block pretty good and I didn't have to do any grinding. I put paper towels in the cam tunnel to hold the bottom piece up against the block while I was bolting them together. I put a thin layer of JB weld on the upper pieces where they cup around the lifter bores. Don't have to put any on the block. Just wipe off any excess that sqeezes out with a damp paper towel. Worked pretty good.
