Default 4 Speed shifter mount location

Can some one tell which set of bolts are used for shifter mount on a 64/66 GTO with a Muncie 4 speed. There are 5 3/8 bolts holes one set to mount shifter forward and one set rearward on tail housing. Now that I have the correct mount shifter fits worse.

Don't know if this will help, but it is a page from the 66 Shop Manual about this subject.

I see that the linkage kit recommended for the 64/66 GTO is the Hurst 3733163. But I also see that the mount plate isn't correct for the 64/66 GTO. Has anyone used this linkage kit and what were the results?

I spoke with Pete Serio today to find out more about my situation with putting the console back in this 66 GTO. He stated this was basically a pain from day one from the factory. He explained that the shifter arms were actually shorter to reduce the shifter throw slightly as I think another person mentioned. He asked me to post a couple pictures to see what I have. I posted a couple more pic's but they didn't show up I guess.
