According to the entry list, Don Thomas' car has a Chevy 400 for power.

There appear to be 3 Pontiac powered Stockers at the Fla race. Don Himes is once again the top Pontiac qualifier with his little 301 powered ride.
Adam Davis is next with his F/SA '73 Formula 455. And Allen Hollingsworth is qualified with his E/SA '71 455 Bird. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop http://dragcoverage.com/feature-fire...73-firebird-2/ It has '71 fender vents. But who cares ? It does have '73 grills. As long as it passes tech, it's OK. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-20-2015 at 09:25 PM. |

The Pontiac SS cars lost the 1st round in Ariz.
But we still have all 5 Pontiac Stockers alive after round 1. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop |

3 Move On
The bad news this time is that 4 of the Pontiac Stockers had to run each other in round 2.
But the good news is that 3 Pontiacs move on into round 3. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...r=100#indextop |

D-500
This ain't got nothin to do with NHRA class racing. But, the D-500 just started, and one of the TV guys was supposedly quoting a long time fan, when he said his favorite D-500 was in 1961, when Fireball Roberts won.
But most Pontiac guys know that Fireball won in '62, not '61. '62 just about finished off Pontiac's NASCAR glory days, as GM pulled the plug in '63. About this time every year, I like to watch the short videos of both races. Here's the links, in case any of you guys would like to watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7VrygkrD1c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGGxQSDGvD0 |

Yep, the last Pontiac standing lost round 4, in one of those dreaded, same class, heads-up runs.

Frank Gostyla (All Pontiac) also made it to the 4th round, in top sportsman, but lost because of his slower reaction. He was off of his dial by .036, exactly the same as Ed Olpin.

I had no idea there was a Pontiac powered car, which runs national events, in any class higher than SS. Are there others that you know of ? Is this the car he was racing today ? Last edited by ponyakr; 02-22-2015 at 06:34 PM. |

Off hand, I don't know of others, but I check the entry list for each class. Sometimes someone new sneaks in. You also didn't mention Lou Ficco in Comp. He went out in the second round. (470" Pontiac in an '09 GXP)

Is the engine Lou runs a DRCE type engine, or an actual traditional Pontiac engine?

Division 2--Gainsville
Adam Davis made it to the 3rd round of the 2nd, division 2 race, with his F/SA 455 '73 Formula.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...r=100#indextop Thanks S/st 54 for clarifying that for us. The car Lou Ficca Jr. runs does NOT have a Pontiac engine. I've noticed that a lot of the later model Firebird engines are listed as Pontiac on the entry lists. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-23-2015 at 01:17 AM. |

Division 7 Race
They're racing in Ariz again this weekend. This time it's a division race. Once again we have 5 Pontiac powered cars in Stock, with Brad Burton again being the highest Pontiac qualifier. Don Kennedy is back, in SS, with his GT/AA 428 powered ride. It seems they are expecting rain Sun. So they might try to run the race on Sat. Good luck to all the Pontiac powered racers !

I've read that there is a Pontiac powered car running in the S/ST class, this weekend in Ariz. And, Frank Gostyla is back with his Top Sportsman car. From the little I've read about the T/S class, it appears to be a real quick, dial your own, bracket class. This T/S site says the slowest allowable ET is an 8.50, with no min. Does anybody know if this 8.50 max number is correct for 2015 in NHRA and IHRA ? Neither ? Both ?
