Default Rear Axle Width

Does anyone know the stock rear axle width (wheel flange to wheel flange) of the stock Firebird? I have acquired (2) Firebirds with Ford 9" rear axle assemblies and I need to figure out if they are stock width.

Thanks,
Eric

I can measure this weekend got the 78's original on a dolly. I know axle length is 31 1/8".

I've got a 9" housing supposed to be for one I can measure too.

Axles are slightly different length between drum and disc, cant recall if that is carried to the mounting faces or not.

Main thing I found disc vs drum is the brake pilot is longer on disc to locate wheels with the thicker rotor vs drum.

I have a Firebird 8.5 drum brake rear axle sitting in the back yard, if Skip doesn't get the measurement, I can probably do it before we get our predicted 5 inch snowfall on Wednesday.

Eric, you want flange to flange? Mine still has wheels attached so I'd have to remove them, or just get a close enough measurement.

Skip, 61 5/16" outside to outside of each brake drum/wheel mtg surface is what I've come up with in the past. Mentioned this in one of Eric's other posts.

Backing plate flanges 55 7/8". On the 9" and the factory 78 10 bolt. And the 61" looks close as I could measure on the 78 at the drums.
