& lots of copy cats out there too, not that imitation isnt flattering, but when i did my 78 about 10 years ago & picked the silver/red decals that werent factory options, only gold was available in 78 on black cars & it looked tacky with my red interior, id never seen the combo anywhere before, im sure it was done before but not common... now i see lots of people doing it. also on my 72 i painted it a charcoal silver color with kind of a custom 70-72 T/A bird on the nose... a few years later i see a 73 done in the exact same color in my town, the guy saw mine & decided to do his the exact same color. now i have people telling me they saw me out driving around, but it wasnt me!

call me paranoid but i dont even park my cars out front of my house to display, they are always in the garage under a cover or with the door closed until i take them out to drive.

I get what you are saying, I had a friend alert me that my 69 was for sale on e bay. The pics were indeed mine, but the listing was definitely not. Luckily e bay did catch the offender by chance. I have several security measures in place and a little hard getting a huge Case back hoe out of the way of the doors to get em out. Someone wants to try and get to them, they’ll wish they had made a better choice.

But I do love seeing others cars especially since missing a lot of shows due to covid and everything here cancelled. Seeing projects being finished or started, helping in someway if I can just feels good. I love your white TA by the way thank you for posting it.

thanks, i like seeing cars & projects too & enjoy restoring these cars, been working on them for 30+ years.

lots of people dont like the turbo 301 t/a's but just like quadra jet carbs, many people dont know how to work on them & when they didnt run good they got a bad rep. for what pontiac had to deal with at the time (emissions & no more big v8's) they are actually great little engines... the 80/81 turbo 301s had 210-220hp, as much or more than many of the mid to late 70's 400 & 455's... i think a 76 455 was 180hp! LOL!

when running right they could hold their own with 75-79 400 & 455 t/a's & from a roll or on the highway they could match or beat a stock 78 400 non W72. i did very little mods to my 301t like egr delete & gutted the smog pump & got the boost to correct spec & shaved almost 2 full seconds off the best reported stock quarter mile times. plus the 81 pacecars are somewhat rare at only 2000 made & they have the best interior ever offered in these cars with red & black recaro seats.

ok 20 more hp... i confused the 180hp, it was for the 75-79 non W72 400's that were 180hp. regardless, the point was the 301T was the same or more hp than the anemic big 400/455's of the mid to late 70's.

I don’t know a lot about those all my cars were are 400’s except the Redbird Espirt I had I think it had a 301. And I did have a 79 with the olds engine. It was an automatic car.

ive ridden in & raced a few 403 olds t/a's back in the day.. slower by comparison to the 400 pontiac t/a's.. but still a t/a so not knocking them.

my comments on the 301t was regarding the all too common complaints you hear calling them "boat anchors" etc, just wanted to get that out before the naysayers chimed in.

the non turbo 301 was a very low power engine by comparison but then again it was 100-150cid smaller & severely choked out by increasing emission rules, thats pretty obvious. but the 301T was pretty impressive for what it was at the time, had pontiac been able to keep developing it with better technology it would have been an amazing engine, think grand national turbo tech but on a pontiac V8! bet it wouldnt have the bad rep it got if it was kept around a few more years. it was intended to go in the "new" 3rd gen t/a's but got nixed for a corporate GM powerplant.
