I got the new Evans water pump today. Has a nice big cast impeller, and the angles on the impeller are said to be steeper than a factory part. Its an iron housing. Can someone post a pic of a standard pump (indicate mfg and part no) and show the diameter of the impeller. I'd like to see a comparison.
I plan on installing this piece next month. August in the desert is a good time to do cooling system mods. |

Its a brand new product for Pontiacs. Not yet in their on-line catalog. Call them. For info on all of Evans water pumps, and contact info, go here;
http://www.evanscooling.com/main21.htm Be forewarned, this is not an inexpensive water pump. It lists for $170. It uses what Evans describes as a hi-efficiency impeller. Has a bleeder on the front top to burp the pump. It looks like the flange that the pulley mounts on can be adjusted for depth. I couldnt find anybody that has tried one, so I decided to try one and see if it made a difference. |

You going to be using that with the Evans coolant? or just run 50/50?

I plan on testing various things before going to the Evans coolant, but when all is said and done I will be using one of the NPG formulas for cooling fluid. My current cooling system does an OK job. On >110 degree days I can keep the temp under 210 in bumper to bumper traffic with both fans running, using straight water and Redline Water Wetter. With the Ron Davis large aluminum radiator and dual 16" SPAL fans I think I can get better. After each mod I will record and note the avg running temp.
step 1. Replace the current water pump with the Evans part and plumb the back of the heads to the X-over. step 2. Install the electric booster water pump in the lower radiator hose. step 3. Install the remote oil filter and Earls oil cooler (with fan). step 4. Drain the water and fill with NPG. Likely use NPG+, but need to look into the NPG-R first. Im hoping to be able to get the temps down under 200 degrees on a typical August day (105-115) with the A/C running and sitting in traffic. The A/C system (Vintage Air) install will be finished next week, so I really dont know how hot the car will run with the current cooling system and the A/C running. |
