Cool OHC POWER RED BARON STILL AROUND,

Not new news but thought I would bring it over here for those who may not be aware.

The OHC Powered Red Baron Roadster is resting in the Museum of American Speed...

I believe the Hot Wheel and the Model Kit has a Mercedes 6 in them.

From reading the links- the model kit, which came first, had a German airplane engine following the Red Baron theme. When it was time to build the real car no one could easily get the outdated german motor so they used the OHC-6 since it looked so cool.

I think that History is about right, and not discussing the non suitability of an old slow reving (3000 RPM max, but more like 1800 RPM) large tall A/C engine for a car. They really only had 2 choices available to them that sort of resembled the old Mercedes Engine of a Albatross see link

http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/proje...ne-restoration

This Mercedes engine was a seperate Cylinder SOHC I-6

The only other real choice would hve been a Jeep 230 Tornado Six, also a SOHC I-6 with a crossflow head, but other than that if looks even less like the Mercedes engine.

I had seen this car at a World of wheels show, back in the 80's sometime, I thought it was cool because the 66 Lemans I bought my girlfriend at the time had the same engine. I bought the entire car for 250.00 and the guy had another head and cam from a junk yard in the trunk.
