Default Painting metal dash areas

What kind of paint should I use to paint the dash on my 68 Firebird? I want to use something that looks like the original or at least close. The original black paint is not in that bad of shape and I don’t think, or at least hope, it would not be necessary to go through all the trouble of taking it down to bare metal. I am hoping I could just sand/feather any scratches and otherwise just scuff for adhesion of the new paint.

So what kind of paint should I use that has the right finished appearance and also will not affect or adversely react with the existing underlying original paint? I am so lost when it comes to what types of paint to use for all the different surfaces (bare metal and painting over existing paint)

Thanks in advance to all of you paint experts
