Default headlights

the lights on my 2002 grand am will not turn off after the engine shuts off

Body control module could be at fault.

Will they turn off with the switch? Are they the delay type lights? Have you let the car sit for awhile to see if they time out? If it's a push button type switch, is it stuck in? My 2003 Buick had never had the button messed with until about 3 months ago. I pushed it in and it wouldn't come back out.Had to pry it out.
