The USAF has almost always used a chase car ("Mobile") for the U-2 program. The mobile is driven by another pilot and used to chase the U-2 down the runway as it lands, or anytime the aircraft is on the ground. The aircraft comes over the fence at roughly 100 MPH, and the Mobile has normaly caught it by the time it touches down. I've been with this program since 1990 and at that time they used the Mustang 5.0. They were all replaced with the Camaro in about 93/94, but since they are also dead now, there needs to be a replacement. This is what they came up with.

I have followed that program for a few years. I think that is a great use for the GTO. Nice to see our tax dollars put to good use. Our pilots deserve a fast and comfortable car to chase down the U2 on approach.

Obvously your reading comprehension skills need to be honed a little.
The post states that the mustangs were replaced with camaros in 93/94. Wouldnt that make them 4th gens and built in canada. That being the case (according to my maps anyhow) Canada is not a state. Therefore making the camaro an IMPORT.

Talked to one of the pilots today and he says that the latest Camaro version is faster than the "GTO". They just recieved some of the last Camaros off the line so there will be some competition in the choice of chase cars for a while. Should be interesting to see if the Camaro is still the favorite after the 05 shows up.
