Visited a dealer today who seemed willing to play ball. Got him down to 25k OTD, but his financing (GMAC)was way out there. I told him that was not a deal breaker if he could make up the difference in price. Long story short, I needed to see 23k OTD to make up for the expense of the financing over the life of the loan. His boss said no, so out the door I went. This was a pulse red M6 car, and I had never seen the color before. I think I would not be happy with it anyway. I wanted silver/red, but they are long gone around here. I guess I will wait until September and pick up a stale 05 for 25k and 0%.

I'm not so sure about getting a deal on the '05's like the '04's. I was in San Diego on business this past week and they had 3 '05's on the lot...all were sold. Two of his next shipment were already sold as well. I bought an '05 the other night. The delaer I went to had 2 on the lot and they both sold the day they were loaded off the truck. I got a Cyclone Grey/Blk A4. With incentives I wound up paying $500 below dealer invoice. I think the 400 HP and minor exterior styling upgrades are going to move these cars off the lots. Just my 2 cents.

You might be right, but the short sales year followed by the all new model is going to hurt sales I think. We'll be getting spy photos and specs on the new model in just a few months. This dealer I visited had 3 unclaimed 05's in stock, BTW. I remains to be seen if the 05's appearance is an "improvement" also. Having seen them both side by side, I prefer the 04. The 50 hp and better brakes on the 05 are a huge improvement though. With the new Mustang on the scene, I wonder hom many people will care...

GM publishes a monthly sales report, so it will be easy to compare.

Well, I am not 100% positive that the 06 will look like the orange woodward car. It could but I wouldn't expect a complete make over until 2007.

I am sure there will be deals towards the end of the year but not sure it will be as substantial.

The 05 is already selling much better than the 04 did.

You might be better off finding a used one. There is a silver/red 6spd with 3K miles on it near me. They are asking under $20K for it.

Well, make no mistake, I think 24-25k is a pretty good deal for a brand new car with this kind of performance. The deal breaker for used cars is the lousy financing. For me this was a purchase of opportunity, and 72 @0% is a good opportunity! That kind of free money is a great tool to be used whenever possible IMHO. It makes no sense for me to tie up 25k cash for a quickly depreciating item when it could much better be used to buy more dirt. Further, the longer the financing, the better your debt/income ratio looks on paper, also important when trying to make a move on other investments.

I'll wait until the end of summer and see what happens on the 05's.
