This is the first GTO I ever owned. I bought it back in 1980. It was rusty then. It was last driven on the road in 1985. I've owned, and still own a few other GTOs, but I decided this year it was go for broke, or sell it.
I had parted many other cars, but this one was kept intact except that I had sold the 4 speed console. Restoration is being done by Florida Pontiac in Stuart Florida. |

As you noted, the road to restoration is long. I wish I had started off with one that good! 4 years and counting. Good luck!

I can top that :)
That's nothing at all. Check out these pictures. I took these back in January...this was the last I saw it like this before it headed out to the sandblaster, was taken off the body, and frame was sent to the powdercoated.
Thank goodness I get to do all the fun stuff now

Here the frame has been releived of the motor, transmission and rear end.
Some miscelleaneous including the front suspension needs to be removed prior to degreasing and a trip to the media blaster/powder coater. |

The disassembly of the 389 engine reveals a less than stellar crankshaft. This indicates that I must have had a lot of fun driving this car in the early 80's. I remember some of the smoky burnouts, but that is about it. In short, the crank is toast, and will be replaced with a rotating assembly from one of the premier Pontiac engine builders.
It looks like if I had driven this car a little more, the crank would have broken in two. |

The flywheel has seen too many holeshots. It is blue with a multitude of cracks. One more good holeshot would have probably grenaded it.

Hey Andre, that sure looks like what I had and I NEVER thought it would get back together again. After YEARS of work and waaaayyy to much $$$$$, it is finally done. I feel your pain.

I don't have the skills or time to do it myself, so I have a top notch shop called Florida Pontiac working on it. The only pain will be in waving goodbye to the $$. Based on the progress that has been made thus far, I wouldn't be suprised if this car was wrapped up by the end of January. Maybe even earlier than that. Right now my bottleneck is the engine/rotating assembly.

Great pics and story Andre. Keep us updated. I love the before, during, and after photos. For some reason the before photos are the most interesting I agree with baron on that.
