Since I started getting the noises & bugs out of my 69 Firebird Rag Top in July - It sat outside for over 1 year, I'm still left with one noise. I had it oil rust protected 2 weeks ago thinking some joints or seals were still making the noise and it would catch them, but no luck.
When it rolls I get a squeak, squeak, squeak. When I hit about 40 mph it seems to go away or gets buried. It seemed to get louder on a left turn so I suspected the wheel bearing, but the garage said that would grind, not squeak. They lubricated the wheel trim rings - no difference. This is a real pain - should I get the wheel bearings done just for peace of mind? Any suggestions? Someone suggested U-Joint, but there is no clunking on gear changes? The U joint answer sounds like the correct one. The squeak should remain stable and increase in frequency during acceleration. It may drop off at higher RPM's and may not have a clunk associated with it when going into gear.

Hmmm,
Retorque the lug nuts or Worn-out Rim 5-bolt-bosses? Separete the leafs and grease the plastic spacer pads, grease between the leafs. Inspect/oil the Upper shock mount bushings. Oil/tighten the Upper control arm bushings. Check the hood lip line for rubbing the Fenders and cowl. Petrol jelly on the rubber hood bushings. and I'm spent.

Fixed!
Both rear axle bearing were seized, no one thought they were bad because they grind noticeably when wearing out. They were passed that already, no movement all. Need to replace the drivers side rear axle now - scored. That's what happens when you get a car with no history & 90,000 miles on it. I'm knocking the problems off one at a time! She rides so much better now too! Thanks for all the suggestions. ------------------ Wally
