Does anyone know how the console opening/ shift boot differs on 67 deluxe interior cars with regards to 3 or 4 speed trannies? My 'bird came equipped with a three speed floor shifted manual. I am looking to install a four speed but want a correct appearance. The floor opening has a rubber boot at floor level, but the shift handle has a piece of fiberboard above it to cover left and right movements and the console has a vertically sliding piece of fiberboard to accomodate front to rear motion. Was this contraption used on 4 speed shifers as well? Were four speed 67's issued with a "hurst" logo on the shifer handle or was it plain? If so, was that (hurst shifter) an option or or was it on all four speed 400's? Sorry for the anal retentive questions. Thanks for any answers.

'67 Birds recieved the Muncie shifter same as the '67 & 68 Camaro. Factory equipped round stick Hurst shifter did not appear till '68 on Birds & '69 on Camaro's. Flat stick Hurst shifters for Pontiacs are aftermarket & use different shifter mounting bracket & shifter rods.

If originality & keeping the '67 console intact are important, it would be best to obtain a factory Muncie shifter for a '67 Bird. Might ck e-Bay, punch in Muncie, & hit search.

P.H.,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. If I could prevail a bit more, was the sliding fiberboard console hole used with the muncie 4 speed shifter in deluxe interiors?

I have seen a very few muncie shifters on eBay and they are quite rough looking. I may have to go with Hurst since they are still in production. Another question.. If I obtained a Hurst Competition + shifter for this year car, does it use a bracket on the crossmember like the I assume the muncie did? If not, I assume the Hurst install kit has a bracket that attaches to the tailshaft housing??

Thanks

Robby D
