Default 68 LeMans 350 HO post coupe :( $400

I had a big near miss on a opportunity today. I was browsing on local Dallas Craigslist and found new ad from today that was obscure and just said 1968 Pontiac. Clicked on ad and it was a rough LeMans post coupe with rear end body damage, buckled 1/4's from pushed in bumper and surface rust. Very rough but straight othewise. No details except said 350 HO and the car was $400! I called and left a message and after 2 hours I called back and he answered to say it had already sold I hung up and pondered on details I didnt know like tranny, etc. So I just called back and the nice sounding older man answered and I had a little chat with him. He was the original owner and it was a true HO car White outside White (Parchment) Buckets inside, 4 speed M20 Muncie wide ratio, Hurst shift of course, HD 3.55 Safe-T-Track, Manual Disc brakes, Manual steering, heater only no AC, Dog Dish caps, 2 door post.....Damn, as heard on Get Smart..."Missed by that..much!" The Holy Grail of 68 LeMans...He turned over original dealer brochures etc, with car. While on the phone he realized he didnt give him the 1968 GM Pontiac diagnostic book and it had some of his warranty paperwork. I may go by and buy that from him. WOW. Here are pics from ad and yes it is rough as hell but the guy was supposed to be putting 1/4's on it..etc.

Let's just hope it don't get parted. but it looks like it took a pretty bad hit.

Looks like he ran it in the bump to pass class at some roundie round track. I had a shot at a 69 HO LeMans 4spd triple black for $1500. several years back. Don't you hate it when they get away from you.

Yep, pretty painful and it may have ended up being parted which would have been pretty profitable!

Sure, it hurts to miss out on a good deal, but just think how much money (and effort) you saved by NOT getting it.

Wise words.

Although rare & desirable to some of us, most guys aren't chasing them. I hope to find a 68 or 69 HO someday that's already done.

Boss, you may want to search Delaware. For some reason that state has some amazing cars hiding there.

Like what? I lived there till I was 16 and know of two RAIV cars in the area. One of them is now in FL.

There were no intentions of restoring it myself, just the opportunity to either flip it or more likely part it out myself and make a few thou off the fo hundred I spent. Of course I would have to go thru the whole range of emotions of the wonder and coolness of the car's options and what it used to be like then the downward spiral of pending doom of scrap metal coming. The $$$$ profit would cheer me back up though.
