Default 1972 GTO Charleston/Mt. Pleasant, SC?

My next door neighbor owned this car.
White w/ brown interior 400 auto.
He sold it to a kid who went to First Baptist School in downtown Charleston and
lived across the river in Mt. Pleasant, SC probably around 1981 or 1982.
My neighbor's last name was Davidson. He was an episcopal preacher and was in his 80s when the car was sold. He died soon after.
I last saw this car in the late '80s in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
I might be interested in buying this car if it is still around.

Haven't seen it around, but I will keep an eye out for it. I live in the Charleston area.

Thanks!
last time I saw it was on Coleman Blvd. and was looking a little rough with primer on the lower front fenders and it was also jacked up in the rear with wide tires.
I'm guessing if it is still in Charleston it is in somebodies backyard or garage and hasn't run in years.

Pretty sure I would have known about it if it had been driven between 2000 and 2005, GTOs stand out in Charleston. I know my 70 did when I was stationed there, I'll ask my friends in the area to keep a lookout or let me know if any pop up.

Have you seen the green T37 in West Ashley? If you take the first bridge exit on 526, go back towards downtown, and turn right at the first light, then another right on the first street, you will drive right past it. Its two houses from the overpass of 526. Last I heard the guy thought it was worth a fortune..

Yea, I know exactly where that car is. I have seen it in the driveway many times. Haven't been by there lately though, but its probably still there.

Oh yeah, I've know about that car for 20 years. it's on savage rd.
I was behind him around '95 when I was working at the corner of Belgrade and Wappoo Rd.
he pulled out of Belgrade and let it rip-spun really well. is this car even running anymore.

Are you guys familiar with the dark blue '70 GTO convertible that used to be on Coleman Blvd. all the time from about '78, when I was in school over there, to the late '90s? It was a daily driver and the owner would pick up her kid at Sullivan's island elementary school next door to my house. It was torture seeing that thing so often knowing i couldn't afford it.
last time I saw it the top was in really bad condition.

as you can tell i'm a little GTO obesessed.

You arent the only one obsessed, there was also a black 2+2 Catalina with 421 badges on it down by the Battery, not in the greatest part of town, but it was in nice shape. I noticed every old Pontiac in the area.

Yep. That catalina is always parked out in front of a body shop on Spring St. Between Ashley Ave. and Coming St.
Got any more sightings? LOL.

Did you ever see my 70? It was black, gold, two tone blue, and yellow while I was there.

Hmmm,

I have seen a black and maybe a gold but not 2 tone blue or yellow. I would def have remembered a yellow. Not sure if I remember then being a specific year like a '70, but definitely the '68-72 body style. Although the '70 front end is very different compared to the '68-69.
Did you ever go to the Bessinger's car shows on the first wed. of each month?
I didn't start going to them until first part of '05.

Had a guy take me way down Rivers ave. to a fenced in lot, and I looked at a 70 GTO htp. It was pretty ratty, 73 350 motor in it, pcs missing, rotten underneath. Looked like it had been there 20yrs. out in the elements. Gold, black vinyl top/interior. Not worth the tow expense to pull it out.

Unfortunately I'm new to the area, so I don't know the exact street, but if I take the backway out of the Costco, there are some single story houses and one has what appears to be a GTO sitting out front and I think the engine is missing. I seem to recall it being light green, but I could be wrong. Maybe it's the same car Thumpin was talking about?

Hunter, how come you weren't at Boone Hall Car show couple weeks ago? There were only a couple Pontiacs there, some 2nd Gen birds and a couple late models. To be honest the show was pretty weak, but I wonder how much of it had to do with unseasonable cold weather and the economy.

Mike,
I was going to go, then a bunch of things got in the way. Didn't live up to thier hype, from what I understand. Weather could have played a part?? Yeah, I generally don't have a problem attending shows, but just didn't have the time. Might go in the spring if they have one next year.?? Always looking for excuses to get the car out.

Update on the green T-37. I drove past there yesterday and it is still sitting in the driveway. The hood is off(probably in the garage) and it looks like the engine is out of it. The exaust pipes are hanging where they connect to the manifolds. Maybe the owner is rebuilding the engine. From a distance the body doesn't look bad.

I forgot to tell you guys that a few weeks ago I was driving down Sam Rittenburg and coming the other way was a big dodge cummins turbo diesel dually with an open trailer and a '69 orange GTO on it. it had 4 sale written in shoe polish on the windows and slicks on the back. Looked a little rough but was basically straight.
