I guess that would give new meaning to "missing a gear"

danny this isn't the right thread for finding this information;

were I a moderator, I would have moved your posts to keep this thread "clean"... I mean this is the seventh page here already, and you're essentially attempting to derail the discussion.

that's fine.

since this is a thread trying to compile a list of 1970(and some 1971) specific Firebird parts, your numbers request would just get lost in here.

I'd suggest that you send me a PM with your request(s), or start a new thread looking for this info.
I'd suspect that the info is all on a site somewhere, but I can dig it all out for you if you want.

So let's get this thread back on center & see if we've found all the one-year-only parts on a '70 Firebird. Anyone compiled a complete list from all this input?

no offense 'ric, but I believe we have done this a couple times over the past few years. Seems every time we get new members we go through this excersise again...I am sure if you were to do a search on the PY forums you could find all of this information. Not sure if the threads were titled"70 one year only etc.." but I know either on hijacked threads or threads devoted to 70 only parts, we have hashed this out a few times....

That's what I wanted to know too, URJ. Who has the time to sit here for hours searching old threads? I thought perhaps someone had complied a list of all the known differences.

I have such a list, but to be quite honest...besides a couple minutes here and there to get on the computer...I just don't have the time right now to look for it. It is somewhere in my book material.. I will try and post it later this weekend..

Sounds like we're in the same boat! I'll watch for it later in the weekend.

On page 5 of this thread wilder lists 25 or so 1 year only parts. here are some additions:

1. front inner wheel wells bottom foward filler panel. 70 had 4 upper mount bolts, 71 up has 2
2. 70 only vacuum actuated heater water switch(TA's only ,71 TA's didn't use this anymore)
3. Van Nuys core support to front subframe bottom bolts are different than Norwoods in 1970 and all 71's,they are 1/2" or so shorter and have a different part number with a "F" foundry marking
4. "J" brace to front subframe mounts, Van Nuys used 1 clip and 1 bolt, Norwood and 71 up used 2 of these bolts and no clip.
5. original 70 front spoiler had the 3 center mount holes recessed, didn't need spacers and long mount bolts as 71 up did.
6.A/C soft line from Condensor to dryer(was soft/hard in 70,71 up was all hard line)
8. headlight bezels
9. body colored front parking light plastic pieces
10. extra ground strap inside of scoop(was it used in 71??)
11. yellowish/cream-black plastic vaccuum break(choke pull-off) on RamAir Quadrajets-earlier years used grey/black or black/black pull offs- and 2 port metal vacuum break on non Ramair quadrajets
12. hi pressure power steering hose(with red stripe)
13. rubber drain tube on bottom of a/c box,not used in 71
14 upper radiator hose(71 used same lower hose as 70)
15 3/4" heater hose-stamped script in 70, branded script in 71
16 '70 used throttle cable with hole mount to carb bracket, 71 up used ball/clip design.
17 same with carb throttle bracket, used stud vs ball for throttle cables mount.

I think the list on page 5 of this thread completes the 1970 one year only parts.. there are some finish/color differences, but actual "gard" parts...i think this completes it..

My last sentence ment to say "hard" parts not "gard parts"

you're talking the indentation bleow the door striker right?

this was a one year deal for '70 Firebirds too... but since it's not exactly a "part"... it would kinda fall of the list wouldn't it?

this was only the case on original quarter panels, as far as i'm aware the tooling was changed for '71, and if the car had quarter panel replacement at any time, the indentation would be the 71+ type.

Steve.... did you just find out one of your Formulas has a later hood?? happened to me a couple years ago. hated it ...really thought,as we all do, that my car was all original only to find the hood had been replaced among other items..
original, usable 70-72 hoods can be hard to find. they have a habbit of rusting around the edges and/or at the mounting points.... good luck...
Help me out here if you will with this "hole" deal, I have a 70 t/a and the hood has a oval hole just past the scoop in front of the hinge on both sides and a small round hole to with a indent around it. and I think I have two big square hole in the front.

Can someone post a pic of what a 70 gas cap looks like, Cuz I have no clue if mine is right or not. I'm not sure what a vented cap looks like.
