Default An Artistic Thief......

For thief this one, or thieves, did one hell of a job just to steal 4 tires.

Something just like that happened here in my town a few years ago, right on a Dodge dealers lot. A row of new trucks had a section of woods at the end of the row. The lighting was poor, and someone snuck in from the woods and jacked that end truck up and stole the wheels off of it. Also on a main highway, and no one saw anything. I remember passing by the lot the next day and seeing it jacked up like that and the State Police there taking pictures.

MaryAnn, take a real close look at it. I bet they didn't leave it in the air like this one.

Brad, you're probably right.

It was up in the air, but I didn’t see it close enough to see how they did it, I just thought it looked very odd as the cops were taking pictures I was passing by the scene.

I'd say the real artist is the person who photoshopped the truck sitting on a single stand.

You’re probably correct, wish I had pulled over that day I saw one like that and how they did it.

Why would wheel thieves use a jackstand of any kind? They just jack them up, take off the wheels and drop the vehicle on the ground. Low profile jacks slide right out with the vehicle sitting on the disks.

How could the whole truck balance on one jack stand? Seems to me the front of the truck would be touching the ground.

All I can add is if the thief did add jack stands under the car (probably stole those also) don't tell the police you found the car on jack stands! The one time I had wheels & tires taken from a car I owned, the thieves did leave the car on 4 miss matched jack stands. The officer writing the report took them as "evidence".

Yeah - center of gravity is clearly wrong. A friend of mine had the wheels stolen from his little 2-seater BMW once, and they left the car on plastic milk crates. I wouldn't have believed they would hold a 2,700 pound car.

Pretty skeptical of that pic.

I've posted this before but attached is my then 2 year old '80 Phoenix SJ, pic taken the morning that I found all 4 13" snowflake cast aluminum wheels and the OE tires gone.

It had snowed overnight and my wife noticed the missing wheels while she was brushing the snow off her car parked alongside in the apartment complex parking lot where we lived. No footprints so the thief or thieves did the dirty work before the snowfall.

Local cop came to take the report. When he saw that they had left the car set up on bricks, he commented that I was "lucky" as he told me they usually just drop the car back on the ground.

If that was real, think about how much weight is being distributed over a surface of what...3 square inches or so? It would also not only have to be balanced fore and aft but side to side. Once you got all that right picked the perfect spot, wherever the center of gravity wound up would have to be a real strong hard point capable of keeping that stand from poking right through.
