So the soft, covered lids that everyone associates with second gen Firebirds and 1972+ Camaro's are different than the 70-72? I had previously understood that the earlier ones used vinyl in colour, while the later ones were painted to match the interior - but for all intents they were the same; I had understood that the distinctly different ones were the latter service replacement hard molded ones. If you are able, could you please provide images. IIRC my cousin's '71 TA has/had a vinyl covered lid, but the few like it that I have seen like this looked terrible, as though some corner upholsterer did it, they never quite matched, and almost always coincided with the underside of the lid being actually broken in the middle where the foam was injected.

Neat!!
I'm saving these pictures! It's too bad I didn't know this eons ago, I have seen a handful of those white molded ones, but every one was broken, and the vinyl covering made me think it was done by an interior shop... poorly.

Al Knock has done a few "Console" rebuilds. I do not know if they also recover the lids.

All the GM ones I e seen Woodrow are covered. The molded crap is like parts place garbage.
The one in black I bought in the 80’s is covered. They just all came in black then. |

have a good but not perfect early style lid off a console from a late Dec 72 built '73 T/A. Not sure if late '73 builds had gone to the molded rubbery type lid but would be nice to know.
