Default Anyone collect matchbooks???

Going through my Dad's stuff, and found an unstruck matchbook from Ft. Sill, OK during WWII. On the matchbook, it states "World's Largest Match Book". This thing is 16 inches wide!

I have no clue Ebay will permit it, or even how to ship it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jon.

i've seen a crap-ton of matchbook listings on ebay, but I believe all had the matches removed (staple pulled, and it was essentially the outside of the matchbook).

That sounds like a neat piece... but I suspect finding the right buyer might take some time.

My dad was a smoker and usually used matches. I started collecting a few matchbooks from his favorite restaurants and gas stations since he would always have a few inside the GTO's glovebox.
The ones from Ebay always had the matches removed.

I have a 6 old metal coffee cans full of matches from the 50's-90's that my grandparents in Reno Nv kept. I recently started using them instead of sitting around eating up square footage for someone to throw away when I die. Just finished using a matchbook from the Mapes hotel that closed almost 40 years ago.

There is a whole section on eBay for matchbooks:
https://www.ebay.com/b/Collectible-M...496/bn_2310799

Here's a couple discussions on the eBay community pages about shipping matchbooks.
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Sellin.../td-p/25879459
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archiv...qaq-p/19912690

I think some collectors carefully remove the matches and then save just the covers - that eliminates any issues with selling and shipping flammable things.

I remember an old carpenter that worked for my dad in the 70’s, with his Dodge pickup that was old at the time. He had a matchbook that stretched right across the top of whole dashboard.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

Some things were just not meant to ship, and this is probably one of them.

I did Goggle and check Ebay for Ft. Sill matchbooks, and did not find this one. It is 75 years old.

Will try to sell locally.

Again, thanks to all.

Jon.

When I was a kid I collected matchbooks (can you imagine parents today letting their kids do this!). I think I saw something on tv about another collector and thought it would be cool. I had thousands of them. I preferred for them to be unused, but if I found something different that was used I would keep that too. My oldest brother was in the Army at the time and he picked up quite a few from 'far away places'. I also had extended family picking them up for me. I had an uncle that was an airline pilot, and my parents and grand parents travelled a lot. I do remember I had some there were quite unusual. They all ended up in the trash bin at some point.
